Biological activity: Pramoxine is a topical local anesthetic with antipruritic effect.
In vitro studies Pramoxine is usually combined with Colloidaloatmeal, Hydrocortisone, Menthol, and Petrolatum.
In vivo study Pramoxine (1.7mM) acts on the ileum of guinea pigs, reducing the response to subChemicalbookstanceP to a lesser extent than reducing the response to acetylcholine, histamine and BaCl2. Pramoxine acts on the ileum of guinea pigs and has anesthesia inhibitory effect with a pKa of 6.4. Pramoxine handles panting and trembling dogs, activation and inhibition, and both cause specific skin temperature changes. These changes are interpreted as peripheral mediation in the control of the thermoregulatory mechanism.
